Trafficking in Knowledge. Nendo Dango Workshop

Open PEI seminar. An activity run by Hacer t/Tierra (Paloma Stafford, Iris Torruella and Antonio Monroy), in collaboration with Mobile Garden
Song for Many Movements: Scenes of Collective Creation
in progress

In this workshop we will use the ecoactivist technique of Nendo Dango, as popularised by master Masanobu Fukuoka. This technique involves making small clay balls, containing the seeds of local herbs and flowers, which are able to heal the earth in places where it has been contaminated by heavy metals and toxic chemicals. These plants are normally considered to be “weeds”.

Here we will learn community strategies for sowing seeds in times of environmental drought, resistance, and recovery in the face of colonial practices. The Nendo Dango Workshop will be a way to (re)think and collectively feel our relationship with the spirits of the earth, while offering a chance to engage with the museum and reflect on local and global policies for the preservation of earthly life, and of the Earth itself.

This event is presented as part of Song for Many Movements, an ephemeral experiment in which the ground floor of MACBA becomes a stage for encounters, conversations and shared listening. Curated by María Berríos and Sabel Gavaldon.
