Enrique Ramírez studied popular music and cinema in Chile, and contemporary art and new media at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Tourcoing, France. Since 2010, he has lived and worked between Paris and Santiago de Chile. Combining video, photography, installations and narratives, Ramírez generates stories within stories, fictions straddling countries and eras, and mirages between dreams and reality. He uses the often-frontal image and sound to build intrigues and visual stories in a poetic and at the same time political key, referring to fragility as a state typical of the contemporary world. In his imaginary worlds, the sea has a prominent presence, both as a geographical reference that condenses the notion of constant movement and as a record of journeys, conquests and migrations. Active since the early 2000s, he has held solo exhibitions at Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, Santiago de Chile (2010), Musée des Beaux-Arts, Dunkirk (2013), Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2014), Museo Amparo, Puebla (2015), Centro Cultural MATA, Buenos Aires (2016), Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago de Chile (2017), Musée Les Abattoirs-FRAC Occitanie, Toulouse (2019) and Centre for Contemporary Art, Tel-Aviv (2022). He has works in collections such as MoMA, New York; Museo Amparo, Puebla; Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, Chile; and MACBA, Barcelona, among others.
