Max de Esteban has a PhD in Economics and Business Studies from the Ramon Llull University, Barcelona, a degree in Engineering from the Polytechnic College of Catalonia and an MBA from Stanford University. Working mostly in photography, video and digital technology, he is best known for his examination of the human condition under a technological regime, and of the endless media overflow of images and information, technologies and virtual realities. De Esteban keeps asking: Who invests in this technological regime? Which ideology does this technological and biopolitical knowledge serve? What is life like in post-humanism? Using all types of visual, narrative, filmic, digital and conceptual resources, de Esteban has produced a profoundly critical body of work.  Solo exhibitions include the Central European House of Photography, Bratislava (2012); Deutsche Technik Museum, Berlin (2015); La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, Barcelona (2018 and 2022); Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela (2019); and Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico (2021). He has participated in major festivals such as the Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador 2023); Yokohama Triennale, Japan (2020); Cairo Biennale (2019); Bienal de La Habana, Cuba (2019); and FotoFest Biennial, Houston (2016), among others. His work is included in the collections of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela; Museu de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro; Deutsche Technik Museum, Berlin; Col·lecció Nacional de Fotografia de Catalunya; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam, Cuba; and MACBA, Barcelona.
