A graduate of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and the École des Beaux-Arts, Nantes, Mircea Cantor lives and works between Paris and Cluj, Romania. His pluralistic work includes video, animation, sculpture, drawing, painting and installation, often taking childhood in a communist country as his starting point. He is also interested in formal and aesthetic issues, together with overtly political ones. Both metaphorical and evocative, his videos and installations put forward a critical vision of the world. With proposals that point to a poetic resistance, Cantor addresses competing ideologies and global problems such as war, displacement, otherness, and cultural and social diversity.  Solo exhibitions include STUK Arts Center, Leuven, Belgium (2022), Musée d'arts, Nantes (2019); Maison Hermès, Tokyo (2018); Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2016), Museum of the Moving Image, New York (2012); Kunsthalle, Nuremberg (2010), Kunsthaus, Zurich (2009) and Philadelphia Museum of Art (2006). His work is included in collections such as MoMA, New York; Walker Art Center, New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Israel Museum; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; and MACBA, Barcelona, among many others.
