Moved to Barcelona when he was twenty years old to study psychology, he enjoyed wandering along the rambla, in the Barrio Chino and along the Paral•lel avenue. He later moved to Paros, where he attended seminars given by Lacan, and lived in a student residence. He, along with other artists, was one of the contributors to the art magazine "Figura", published n Seville, and a member of a group that would later exhibit at the gallery "La Máquina Española". Espaliú worked closely with this gallery, and particularly with the man behind it, José Cobo, who helped Espaliú to exhibit abroad and even allowed the artist ro organize several of the gallery's exhibitions. Espaliú accepted and fiercely defended his homosexuality, an attitude which became more emphatic after being diagnosed with AIDS. In collaboration with Arteleku, the artist organized Carrying in San Sebastián, later performed in Madrid; it consistend in carrying a barefoot person with AIDS, namely Espaliú, having him change arms from couple to couple without touching the ground as he moved along a human chain. Espaliú's art was multifaceted, ranging from writing and drawing, to sculptures, installations and performances. Among the prominent exhibitions of his work figure those held at the Pabellón Mudéjar in Seville, the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) in London, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid in 1993, after the artist's death.
