Eulàlia Valldosera (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1963) studied painting at the Facultat de Belles Arts de la Universitat de Barcelona, and printmaking at the Escola d’Arts i Oficis de Catalunya. From 1990 to 1994 she lived in Amsterdam, where she graduated in audiovisual studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, and from 1999 to 2000 she lived in Berlin. She currently lives and works in Barcelona. Valldosera began exhibiting in the mid-eighties. Since then she has been producing Conceptual art around the body and her own representation, and around human perception. Her hybrid pieces – performance, photography and textuality – use light, shadows, mirrors and multiple projections in a visual research on gender, the domestic space and feminine archetypes. Household cleaning is one of the central metaphors of his work and, since the nineties, light has become a fundamental element. Through projections combined with simple everyday objects, Valldosera creates large installations that are theatrical and magical. In parallel, she uses photography and video to produce work that questions our relation to objects and people. Valldosera’s contribution to the language of contemporary sculpture has given her a prominent international reputation among Catalan Conceptual artists. Since the 1990s, Valldosera has been included in numerous Biennales, such as Kwang-ju, South Korea, 1995; Sydney, 1996; Manifesta I, Rotterdam, 1996; SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1997: Istanbul, 1997; Johannesburg, 1997; Yokohama, Japan, 2001; São Paulo, 2003; Skulptur Projekte, Münster, 1997; and Venice, 2001, among others. In 2001, the Witte de With, Yokohama, Japan, 2001; São Paulo, 2003; Skulptur Projekte, Münster, 1997; and Venice, 2001, among others. In 2001, the Witte de With, Rotterdam, and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, organised a retrospective, and in 2009 she had a further retrospective at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid. Her work is included in numerous collections such as FRAC PACA (Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), Marseille; Fundació "la Caixa", Barcelona; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Museo de Bellas Artes de Álava: Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de León; Artium, Vitoria; and MACBA, Barcelona.
