Xavier Ribas was born in Barcelona in 1960. He studied Social Anthropology and Documentary Photography, and currently lives and works between Barcelona and Brighton, England. Much of his work is based on documenting processes of transformation in major contemporary cities, often focusing on less obvious aspects of urban structure and archaeology. He in interested in public space, memory, urban regeneration and leisure time, and he has explored issues such us the metropolitan periphery, the dialogue between nature and urban planning, and the specific geographies of places of historical significance.
His works can be found at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (FNAC) in France, the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in Seville and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC).
