We are working to build a museum that is more permeable, more empathic and attentive to the realities and needs of the communities with which we coexist: the communities of the neighbourhood and those of the city.

The new Plaça del Àngels and the Expansion Project
MACBA’s expansion project is still on track thanks to the support of the members of the Consortium and other agents in the city.
The chosen project
The Galería project, by UTE Harquitectes and Christ & Gantenbein, was chosen to bring this expasion of the museum into being. As the jury emphasized, the proposal neatly resolves a three-tier dialogue: with the neighbourhood, with the city and with the museum itself.
Other visions of the expansion
More than thirty domestic and international architecture studios entered the MACBA expansion competition. Jury members emphasized the high level of the finalist projects.
A participatory process
With the intention to integrate the voices and knowledge of the museum’s working community into the museum expansion project, a participatory process was carried out that collected a whole series of proposals and considerations around the museum to come.
