This work is a portrait of Francesc Abad by way of a depiction of his professional career as a teacher in a Barcelona private school. It consists of the payslips he received over forty years. At a time when work is tenuous, hard to find, insecure and not as well paid as it used to be, this portrayal of a whole working life acquires the feel of a monument. The work also invites the viewer to think about an artist’s remuneration within the liberal capitalist economy and, in particular, about the idea of creative autonomy. Nòmines: El meu espai productiu/econòmic is a condensed reflection on the term ‘wage-earning’ in the context of artistic creation.
