Mediterrani t'estim is the project Miralles presented in the Spanish Pavilion at the 1978 Venice Biennale. Her intervention, which addresses the theme ‘On nature in art and on art in nature’, was displayed alongside works by Nacho Criado, José María Iturralde and Pilar Palomer, with photographs of bridges by the engineers Martínez Calzón and Fernández Ordóñez. Santiago Amón described Miralles’ installation as a ‘metaphor, one more literary than plastic, on the death threat that hangs (without remedy or recourse) over the Mediterranean Sea’. The space was covered by mosquito netting of the type found in tents, which, according to Miralles represented the womb of our culture, and the ground was covered with sand on which rested a slab in the manner of gravestone bearing the inscription ‘Vola gavina/estigues alerta/que l’home ja és aquí’ (Fly seagull/be alert/for man is now here) in front of a fox skin with a bullet hole in it.
