The relationship between meanings and things is often present in the series Jordi Cerdà created with boxes and small containers. His first set of encased objects was produced in 1973 and 1974, followed by the series titled Capses [Boxes], carried out from 1975 to 1978. Designation, nominalisation, analogy and other operations associated with language are the focus of his inquiries through physical actions. These include spelling out the basic sounds of vowels, boxing concepts, indicating base numbers or associating the landscapes painted by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot with noble gases, those chemical elements that are named for their similitude with noble metals, with which they share extremely low reactivity.
